The Employee Motivation and Commitment Index hit a record high for the second straight month, climbing 7 points in June to 139.

Three sectors also reached record highs. Manufacturing led the way with the largest increase, gaining 19 points for a new high of 197. Professional, scientific, and technical services continued its upward climb, adding 14 points to 149. Retail and wholesale trade, which has been slumping since February, rebounded 9 points to 141, besting its previous record set in February.

Only two sectors lost ground in June. Construction fell for the second month in a row, shedding 2 points to 107. Real estate also fell 2 points to 100.

“Along with differences by industry, we see sentiment differences by work type,” said Dr. Mary Hayes, director of People and Performance at ADP Research. “Knowledge workers led this month’s increase in motivated and committed employees, while sentiment among repetitive task or shift workers was unchanged.”

The Employee Motivation and Commitment Index tracks how people think and feel about their jobs and employers. ADP Research collects data each month using a panel survey to gather a stratified, random panel sample of 2,500 U.S. workers. This month’s survey was fielded June 2 through 5, 2025.

By providing a real-time measure of the state of worker allegiance, the index can tell us whether people are flourishing in their jobs or detaching. ADP Research publishes the EMC Index on the third Tuesday of every month. The next release will be July 15. For EMC Index historical data, visit the ADP Research Data Lab.
